Types of Paralysis
Paralysis is a medical term that refers to the inability to move or use certain parts or activate certain voluntary or involuntary functions of the human body.
Paralysis is the complete loss of muscle function for one or more groups of muscles. This condition usually occurs as the result of a trauma or injury to the nervous system or brain, especially injury to the spinal cord.
The paralysis may be localized or restricted to one specific area of the body, or even one side, which is sometimes referred to as hemiplegia, or generalized over large portions of the body. Two specific types of paralysis are paraplegia and quadriplegia.
Paraplegia refers to paralysis below the waist and quadriplegia refers to paralysis below the neck.
The life of a victim of either paraplegia or quadriplegia changes immeasurably from the moment of the injury. Every aspect of daily life requires the assistance of another person or machinery just to accomplish an ordinary task we all take for granted.
Financial compensation for the costs of coping with these life-long challenges must be assessed to the person or entity that caused this condition to occur.
If you or someone you love has suffered a life-altering injury that has caused paralysis, please contact the Hamilton, Ontario location of the Findlay Law Offices today to schedule a confidential consultation to learn what your options are.
