Choosing a Personal Injury Lawyer
When choosing a personal injury lawyer it is important to keep in mind that there are times when the services of an attorney are helpful and necessary. When an insurance company refuses to pay your claim, regardless of its’ merits, you will definitely benefit from the efforts of a lawyer to get you a fair settlement.
A personal injury lawyer makes strategic decisions about how a case is tried and what evidence should be brought forward. A personal injury lawyer also does extensive research and preparation and has the knowledge and experience to succeed at trial.
An experienced personal injury attorney knows how to proceed with your case, how to negotiate with an insurance company and how and when to take your case to trial. While you could negotiate with an insurance company on your own, they will have a large contingent of attorneys on staff, trying to take advantage of the situation and attempting to make the lowest possible settlement, if any at all.
You may need the expertise of a personal injury attorney because of complex laws involved in your claim or because the severity of your injuries means you are entitled to greater compensation than is the norm.

Cranial Nerve and Traumatic Brain Injury
The cranial nerves are nerves that run from the base of the brain into different parts of the head. They are often involved in traumatic injury to the brain itself. Injury to the cranial nerves can involve the alteration or destruction of our senses. A traumatic brain injury is caused by a sudden, violent blow to the head which causes bruising, tearing and bleeding.
A traumatic brain injury can result from an automobile accident, a fall, a job-related injury or an assault. The severity of the injury depends on the part of the brain injured. The effects of a traumatic brain injury are usually physically, psychologically and financially devastating.
A mild traumatic brain injury, also known as a concussion, can cause a headache and some temporary confusion, whereas a severe traumatic brain injury can cause paralysis or death.
A mild traumatic brain injury usually responds to bed rest and over the counter pain medication for headache. However, moderate to severe traumatic brain injury usually requires a long period of hospitalization, surgery, extended rehabilitation and occupational therapy.

Signs and Symptoms of Mild, Moderate and Severe Traumatic Brain Injury
A traumatic brain injury is most often caused by a sudden violent blow to the head. The violent blow can be the result of an automobile accident, a motorcycle accident injury, a construction or job-related injury, a sports injury or a criminal assault. Falls are also responsible for a great many traumatic brain injuries.
The area of the brain that is injured determines the severity of the trauma. Symptoms of a mild traumatic brain injury, also known as a concussion, include a brief period of unconsciousness, amnesia for events immediately before and following the injury, headache, slight confusion and dizziness, some loss of balance, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, and difficulty concentrating.
On the other hand, a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury causes the brain to swell and this swelling presents a secondary problem of pressure inside the brain. Symptoms and signs of moderate to severe traumatic brain injury reveal persistent headache, nausea and vomiting, seizures and convulsions, inability to awaken, dilation of pupils, weakness of the extremities, loss of coordination, and profound confusion. Victims of severe traumatic brain injury need physical, emotional and financial support for months and years after being injured.

The Role of Health Canada in Recalls
Health Canada develops and enforces regulations under the Government of Canada legislation to protect the public health and safety. Health Canada provides relevant information on issues that concern the health of Canadians, such as public advisories and warnings, information updates and foreign product alerts.
Health Canada is actively engaged in making certain Canadians have access to safe and effective drugs and health related products as well as attempting to reduce the incidence of disease and conditions adversely affecting the public.
Alerts may include adverse reactions related to the use of pharmaceuticals, blood products, herbal products and vaccines. Problems related to the use of cosmetics, household products, child-related products, medical devices or pesticides and food products are also included.
Recalls are initiated by an importer or manufacturer that has become aware that a certain product has or may have a public safety concern. Health Canada works together with companies to ensure the removal of dangerous products from the marketplace quickly and efficiently.
