Questions about Automobile Accidents

If the automobile accident was my fault, should I admit it?

Do not volunteer the information that you believe the automobile accident was your fault. Before you admit fault, speak to an attorney and your insurance company. Any statement of wrongdoing you make to the police or the other driver may be used against you in the future. Do not sign anything until you have consulted with an attorney, but do cooperate fully with the police.

Should I talk to the other driver’s insurance company?

Never, ever talk to the other driver's insurance company about your automobile accident. You will live to regret it if you do. If the other driver’s insurance company tries to contact you, politely decline to speak to them. The claims adjusters employed by insurance companies are highly skilled and professionally trained negotiators with experience in using specific techniques to get you to give then information that can hurt your claim. The first thing they will tell you is you do not need a lawyer representing you. However, having an attorney who has your best interests, and only your best interests in mind, is the only way to ensure you are treated honestly and fairly.

Who can I talk to about my automobile accident confidentially?

Types of Paralysis

Paralysis is a medical term that refers to the inability to move or use certain parts or activate certain voluntary or involuntary functions of the human body.

Paralysis is the complete loss of muscle function for one or more groups of muscles. This condition usually occurs as the result of a trauma or injury to the nervous system or brain, especially injury to the spinal cord.

The paralysis may be localized or restricted to one specific area of the body, or even one side, which is sometimes referred to as hemiplegia, or generalized over large portions of the body. Two specific types of paralysis are paraplegia and quadriplegia.

Paraplegia refers to paralysis below the waist and quadriplegia refers to paralysis below the neck.

The life of a victim of either paraplegia or quadriplegia changes immeasurably from the moment of the injury. Every aspect of daily life requires the assistance of another person or machinery just to accomplish an ordinary task we all take for granted.

Financial compensation for the costs of coping with these life-long challenges must be assessed to the person or entity that caused this condition to occur.

If you or someone you love has suffered a life-altering injury that has caused paralysis, please contact the Hamilton, Ontario location of the Findlay Law Offices today to schedule a confidential consultation to learn what your options are.

Paraplegia Following a Motor Vehicle Accident

Paraplegia is medical terminology used to describe the paralysis that results from a spinal cord injury. Motor vehicle accidents are a major cause of spinal cord injury caused paraplegia. In a staggering statistic it is revealed that motor vehicle accidents cause over 55% of all spinal cord injuries. Paraplegia is a condition that causes loss of sensation and control of the extremities, and part of or the entire torso.

The spinal cord conveys information between the brain and the rest of the body. Therefore, when the spinal cord is injured, you lose the ability to control parts of your body and the ability to feel. The paralysis can be complete or incomplete depending on the severity of the damage to the spinal cord. Paraplegia is irreversible, and victims are left with life-altering challenges and permanent disabilities.

Victims of paraplegia experience various symptoms that result from partial or complete paralysis, such as extreme muscle flaccidity or limpness, the inability to move or feel anything below the level of the injury and the loss of bladder and bowel control.

An individual who has suffered an injury in a motor vehicle accident resulting in paraplegia is eligible for financial compensation for medical expenses, loss of present income and future earning potential and the catastrophic pain and suffering caused by the devastating injury.
