Common Types of Auto Accidents
Thousands of auto accidents occur every day in Canada. In most cases, there are one or more contributing factors that cause automobile accidents, such as intoxication, distracted driving, or speeding. Just as there are many causes of auto accidents, there are many common types of auto accidents. Accidents are frequently categorized into the following groups.
- Head on collisions
- Intersection collisions
- Auto and pedestrian accidents
- Rollover accidents
- Running off the road
While any type of accident can cause serious personal injury and even death, the type of accident can be used as an indicator of the accident's seriousness. A head on collision involving one or more vehicles at a high rate of speed will more often result in traumatic injuries such as spinal cord or traumatic brain injury. Collisions at an intersection may be serious, but typically, these occur in populated areas where vehicles are moving more slowly in general and one party may be slowing or stopped.
Regardless of what type of accident you are in, seeking adequate compensation for your injuries can be challenging. Canada's "no fault" insurance laws allow injured parties to seek compensation for their injuries from their own insurance companies and limit additional legal action to pain and suffering or lost wages.
