Rules of Conduct at the Scene of an Accident

Being involved in an accident is a harrowing experience. When an accident occurs, the adrenaline rush can often cause you to forget key the basic rules of conduct that should be followed at the scene of an automobile accident. Only constant review of what to do in case of an accident will allow you to recall them when you need them.

  • Do not leave the scene of an accident
  • Never admit fault
  • Call the police and follow their instructions
  • Do not move the vehicle until the authorities have an opportunity to survey the scene
  • Exchange information with the other driver
  • Seek medical help if you feel you need it
  • Write a narrative of the accident while the details are still fresh in your memory

When speaking with the other parties involved in the accident, never agree to handle it amongst yourselves. The authorities will provide an adequate record of the accident in case legal proceedings develop later on. The police and medical records may be needed to bolster your case.

If you or someone you know is involved in an accident, these tips can help protect you legally. To find out more, please contact the auto accident attorneys at Findlay Law Offices, serving Ontario, today.
